Smartphones with amazing and revolutionary features are being introduced quite often nowadays. One such feature that would put tech geeks in awe is the foldable screen technology. While a few major players are already experimenting in this area, Apple hints an upcoming device with a foldable screen technology!
Apple has filed a patent with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) for the design of the foldable device. The images render a smartphone design that clearly shows a hinge right in the middle of the body. Flexible displays are pegged to be overlapping the hinge and are held by the housing.
The design is very similar to that of the clamshell model that Motorola had proposed a few days back. The basic idea is to develop a smartphone with a bigger screen, but being able to fold it into a much smaller body size so that it can be held in one hand. The patent read,
“Hinges may be configured to allow the flexible display to be placed in a front-to-front configuration in which the active side of the display faces itself or a back-to-back configuration in which the active portions of the display face away from each other.”
Some of the biggest players in the smartphone industries such as Samsung, Huawei, and Xiaomi are already focussing on releasing their innovative devices this year. In fact, we may see a foldable device from Samsung as soon as next week during one of the events, which could also feature the much-expected Galaxy S10 series. Certain rumors suggest that even Vivo, Oppo, and Motorola are working on foldable smartphones as well.
